This Sunburnt Country Will Continue to Bake

I love a sunburnt country,

A land of sweeping plains,

Of ragged mountain ranges,

Of droughts and flooding rains.

Dorothea Mackellar – 1904

It might be winter here at Danterr HQ – in fact that might have been a Kangaroo just blow (or float) past the office window. But as it will every year, summer will eventually come. However, no matter the month of the year, the sun will be baking on at least 70% of Australia, and in selected spots, thousands of people will be working hard under the sun in these places – working with concrete, mining, digging, drilling – whatever. So please consider…

The total energy output of the sun per second is somewhere around 3.86×10^26 (386,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) joules per second. The total energy output from the ‘Little Boy’ Atomic Bomb that hit Hiroshima in 1945 was 6.3×10^13 (630,000,000,000) joules. This was a yield of 2 Kilotons of TNT and is just one of two nuclear weapons ever used in combat.

Therefore, the total energy output of the sun in one second would be equal to 6,126,984,126,984 Atomic Bombs, yet for some reason, people want to lie under it and indeed work under it without protection! The sun releases more energy in one second than six trillion equivalent Atomic Bombs! Why would anyone allow themselves to get sunburnt?

New Zealand has overtaken Australia as the melanoma capital of the world. Of every 100,000 people in New Zealand, 50 will contract melanoma. More than 3/4 of these cases are due to failing to slip slop slap.

Remember the old doctrine of ‘never giving a sucker an even break?’ Cancer does not need any help. The research is complete. It is conclusive. Getting sunburnt causes skin cancer. People say things like ‘I don’t get burnt – I only go brown.’ But tanning is sunburn! It is as easy as that.

The melanoma rate should be near enough to zero. Yes, there are going to be a few cases, but people who deliberately give skin cancer a leg up need some encouragement in life. Sun baking could be the stupidest past time in the history of the world – but working under the sun is just the Australian way, and our outdoor workers deserve to be protected for the great ball in he sky.

Now we get to what this has to do with Danterr? Well one of our greatest achievements was suppling products to what tuned out to be Australia’s biggest concrete slab at the Inpex Natural Gas Plant in Darwin. We not only supplied a lot of the concrete products used in the slab, but we supplied tonnes of sunscreen, hats, glasses and other sun protection gear to the thousands of men and women who constructed this gigantic plant. We even supplied the gumboots used on this job. Gumboots, steel reo, dowels, bar chairs, protection glasses, Nevosafe, Hydrotite, Denso Tape, sunscreen, plus thousands of other items.; we certainly covered all aspects of concreting for this huge project.

Working Under The Sun

We have a lot of it left! From gumboots on up – anything that can protect people standing on a bright white concrete slab in Darwin is surely good enough for anyone else in the world. We have it all – literally.

Enquire now to be safe from the unquantifiable power of the sun.
