Project Overview

The Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 is a major infrastructure upgrade extending the tram network from Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads. As part of the broader Gold Coast tram extension, this 6.7km expansion enhances connectivity across one of Australia’s fastest-growing coastal regions, with a total project value of approximately $1.5 billion.

Building on the success of the existing Gold Coast light rail network, the project will expand the system to 27km, improving accessibility for communities, businesses, and visitors. The extension plays a critical role in linking key destinations along the Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads corridor.

Delivered by John Holland Pty Ltd, the project includes eight new stations, dual-track rail systems, and additional light rail vehicles. Danterr supplied high-performance reinforcement and concrete accessories for this landmark development, ensuring durability, compliance, and long-term infrastructure performance.

The Problem

The Gold Coast has experienced rapid population growth, placing increasing pressure on transport networks and contributing to congestion along key coastal corridors. Before the Gold Coast light rail stage 3, public transport between Broadbeach South and Burleigh Heads was limited, leading to heavy reliance on private vehicles and inconsistent travel times.

Key challenges included:

  • Limited public transport connectivity along the Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads corridor.
  • Increased traffic congestion due to population growth.
  • Reduced access to key residential, commercial, and tourism hubs.
  • Inefficiencies within the broader Gold Coast light rail network.
  • Growing demand for a reliable, high-capacity transport solution.

Project Goals

The Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 was developed to deliver a future-ready transport solution that supports population growth, improves connectivity, and enhances urban mobility across the southern Gold Coast.

The project is designed to:

  • Expand the Gold Coast tram extension to meet increasing transport demand
  • Improve connectivity and accessibility along the Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads corridor.
  • Reduce road congestion and reliance on private vehicles.
  • Support sustainable urban development through efficient public transport.
  • Strengthen integration within the broader Gold Coast light rail network.

Project Scope
